01 — The ladder
Guides and takeaways by band
- Age 4–6
- Participate in fun, micro plug-and-play projects. Takeaway: ready to explore the basic principles of coding and robotics.
- K1–5
- Self-directed exploration using block-based coding and essential text coding, individually and collaboratively. Takeaway: understand basic coding principles and how to communicate with computers and machines, including sensors and actuators.
- Grade 6–12
- Build more sophisticated sequences, storytelling and advanced thematic projects. Takeaway: understand causes and fixes for common errors, and develop their own algorithms while digesting concepts, functions and variables.
- Grade 11–12+
- Interactive virtual spaces and creatures in Minecraft using Python; 3D printing for advanced projects; connecting with IoT. Takeaway: use libraries with robust code and expand into IoT, AI and the metaverse.
02 — Why bands
Age-appropriate is a design constraint, not a disclaimer
A four-year-old and a seventeen-year-old can use the same MODI module, which is unusual and useful — it means progression never requires replacing equipment or retraining teachers on a new system.
What changes is the demand placed on the student. The youngest are building and noticing. The oldest are architecting, debugging and explaining. The hardware stays; the thinking gets harder.
